Locals Share Age-Old Traditions as Lancaster County Tours Explores the Amish Lifestyle
Discover why the land is so important to the Amish and their way of life.
These rolling hills of Lancaster County are important to the Plain people. This land is the richest non-irrigated soil in the United States, and the Amish have learned to perfect their yields, replenish the nutrients in the soil, and develop a culinary approach all their own.
On March 24 and July 7, 2012, Lancaster County Tours will share a glimpse into the way our ancestors lived. It’s a world that time forgot. We’ll learn about the history of some Amish specialty foods, see demonstrations of several favorite dishes, and explore how these people take the bounty of the land and make it truly their own.
They know the seasons of the land, and how to capture the best freshness for future meals. With plenty of sweets and savory treats, your day will be a feast for the senses; you’ll take in the beauty of the land, smell and taste the natural goodness, and learn about inventive and adaptive uses of energy…..all against a backdrop of horse-drawn buggies (Amish traffic).
Tour participants will learn the reasons behind Amish traditions - rituals passed down for generations. These special folks are surviving and thriving in a modern world, without sacrificing their simplified, spiritual way of life.
Join us and we’ll whisk you away to another world. We’ve got the transportation, tours, demonstrations and a special dinner covered. Cost is $150/person. This tour is limited and reservations are required. Please call Jan to find out more - 888-999-4479.
