AUTHOR HELPS READERS TO REAWAKEN THEIR CREATIVE SPIRIT

LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA—“Young children are bursting with creativity,” says artist/author Bruce Garrabrandt.  “We never really lose this quality, but many allow it to grow dormant.  As adults, we neglect the creative spirit built into us.”

In his new book, The Power of Having Desire, Garrabrandt coaches readers to reawaken that joyful sense of discovery and curiosity they once knew as children.  “A child’s sense of wonder is the foundation upon which any creative life is built,” says the author.  “We must nurture a lifelong, “child’s-eye-view” if we’re to grow old young.”

Garrabrandt thinks creative spontaneity gets squelched during our school years, when following instructions and learning by rote are emphasized over creativity and imaginative play.  “Reading, writing, and arithmetic are essential elements of a solid education,” he says, “but they aren’t enough for realizing one’s potential.”

Garrabrandt insists that, to understand our unique gifts, we need first to reclaim the sense of awe about life and its possibilities that we had as kids.   Such awe stimulates creative thinking, he says, which can guide us to greater achievement.

“Commitment to keeping your creative spirit alive provides you with opportunities daily to experience, once again, all the magic of childhood,” notes the author, “but this time without getting chicken pox.”

Comedian Tim Conway has endorsed Garrabrandt’s views on creativity:   “Bruce, you are right about being at an advantage if we save a spot in our makeup for youth.  As for myself, I think and act somewhere around the age of 3 years.”
